According to Haspress website, it honors children and teenagers who have memorized the Holy Book or learned how to recite it.

It was first organized in the city of Fes at the order of Sultan Moulay Al-Rashid (1631–1672) who was the king of Morocco from 1666 to 1672.

People choose the best qaris and memorizers and respect them like a king.

The ceremony continues to be held in different parts of the country, including capital Rabat, today.

One of the most outstanding Sultan al-Talaba events is annually held in the village of Duturit in the Souss-Massa region.

The village last hosted it earlier this week, with a large number of people as well as officials, scholars, Faqihs and Quranic figures attending the ceremony.

Speakers at the event underlined the need to preserve such traditions and promote memorizing and learning the recitation of the Quran,

Morocco is a North African Arab country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Islam is the predominant religion in Morocco, with some 99 percent of the population adhering to it.
